It is recommended to mix in a gallon bucket (1/2 of product to 1 gallon of water) and then lightly spray the mixture to the floor with a pump up sprayer. This way the rinse water is just water and will do a better job of extracting the carpet cleaner out of the carpet fibers. You dispense and then extract after that. There is not a recommendation as far as how long to leave on the carpet fibers. But you should be fine to leave on for up to 15 min (it may depend on the type of carpet you are cleaning as well)
