#6 - Floor Stripping Purpose: To remove floor finish and embedded soil from the floor before applying new floor finish.
Required Supplies & Equipment:
· Rotary Floor Machine, Variable Speed Floor Machine, or Automatic Scrubber
· Floor Stripping Solution
· Floor Stripper Neutralizer
· Floor Stripping Pads
· Hand Pads and Holder for edge cleaning
· Set of Wet Floor Signs
· 2 Clean Mop Buckets & Wringers
· 2 Wet Mop Handles
· Clean Looped-End Banded Mops
· Wet Pick-up Vacuum
1. Prepare Equipment - Fill one of the mop buckets half full, with hot water. Measure and add the floor stripping concentrate to one of the two buckets. Transport the equipment to the work site.
2. Prepare Area - Set up wet floor signs. Select an area of about 200 square feet. Place mats at exit points so that wet shoes can be wiped off instead of tracking stripper solution into other areas.
3. Dust Mop Floor - Follow the Dust Mopping Procedure.
4. Apply Stripping Solution - Generously spread the floor stripping solution over area with one of the mops. Allow the solution to work on the floor for the recommended time (usually at least 5 minutes). Do not allow the stripper to dry.
5. Machine Scrub - Place the floor stripping pad under the floor machine. Scrub lengthwise along the baseboards. Then strip side to side over the remaining area. Use the hand scrub pad to detail strip along the edges and in the corners of the room. Heel the floor machine on badly soiled spots. Avoid splashing stripper on walls.
6. Pick Up Dirty Solution - Use a wet pick-up vacuum to remove stripper solution from the floor. Do not allow the dirty solution to dry on the floor.
7. Rinse And Dry Floor - Use a clean mop and clean water. Add floor stripping neutralizer to the water. Cover area liberally with neutralizer rinse water. Pick up the rinse water with the wet pick-up vacuum. Wipe all baseboards before they are allowed to dry.
8. Final Rinse - Damp mop the floor with clear water for the final rinse and to ensure that all stripper solution has been removed.
9. Clean Up - Immediately clean up equipment at the conclusion of the procedure. All buckets and wringers must be thoroughly washed and hung to dry, away from walls. All other equipment is either washed or wiped down and stored in the proper location. Wash hands and any clothing that may have come in contact with any solutions.
